There shan't be

There shan’t be any
no more anymore, after
spat out and looked at
longingly if a differential
in air pressure is
to believed

but distant vessels
waking on unfalsified
waypoints couldn’t figure
out any reason
to reconstruct the steps
that led to this

ok, there are small groans
in the house at night
each one is a memorable
but forgotten displacement
of memorial material, an
unkempt legend, a way
to get around

Three Anthropomorphic Dinner Poems

1.

Merci and good luck to us
is the bon voyage of modern
times, it buzzes oddly in
the pocket, or next to them
in bed, early humans of
our time

2.

I thought you were
a different kind of man
your skeleton is not a movie
projector why do you require
stories with wild players
enjambed inflection points and
punchlines, to glow

3.

Maybe if in the time
it takes this already hot
water to boil, I can
write a poem read a book
draw a picture keep my mind
attuned to the grumbling
humming buzzing tweeting whispering
whistling whiskering fissuring
startling crumbling drumming
fuzzy fleeting glistening
thickening bickering listening
departing snowballing fumbling whooshing
loosening helplessly melting sheltering
sweltering spiraling drunk-dialing
stoned-smiling beguiling achy
festering growing snowing wintering
all-knowing splintering mystifying multiplying
lying truth-telling sleep-selling belly-filling
numbing swilling humming buzzing grumbling
repeating uh what was I talk aboutening
yowl enough to recharge the love it
has for life, this will be the
tastiest mush I’ve cooked in weeks.

How can you expect anyone

How can you expect anyone
to respect you if you don’t
have a couch? Most of the
respected people in the world
have couches — shrinks, talk
show hosts, regular people —
and the ones who don’t have
Ottoman empires, stuffed with
enough spice and capitalist
machinations to trick even
the most proudly minimalist
of decorators — How

can you expect to nurture
and grow a cult in your apartment
if you don’t have a general idea
of where each type of friend
will sit, where the naked one
will pose, where all the laughter
will gather and be drunk, where the
lovers will love to be together
in that moment and then maybe
never meet again — How

if you don’t have a naturally
occurring shape to your layout,
can you ride into the remnants
of your day like a trustworth and
gentlemanly wave, and never
be shocked at the constellation
of galaxies the strange place
of the fridge, the way each room
has its own name even if they’re
just one room — How

if you move your plants to a new apartment
do they feel about all this
moving, have their assonance and
dissonance been measured has anyone
been still enough to do so? How
when you measure the shape of all those
breaths you never even noticed you
were taking, will you notice your next

porch poem

People should be named
things like plant or water
or iphone if you’re being nifty

but all the Jonathans in the world
can not surmise
how this planet is a rock
just as that rock over there
is a planet
me neither

oh look
an obsidian squirrel
in the crunchy snow

oh listen, buzz buzz
it’s Priscilla telling me
to set a timer
and get my life together

oh feel
the cold, the heat
on my toes and fingers and face

People should be naked
things like January and outer space
suggest it

all the helixes may not
be unraveled fastly enough
to compete w your shadow
old pine

we don’t love u more
than the sun
or less

your name is mysterious
buzz buzz

look on zocdoc Priscilla says
the answer may be lurking
there

3 short outside poems

1.

Look, wi fi

it’s what you always wanted

wait, where’s the sun

2.

if you could take

everything I don’t understand

and make it more simpler

that b great please

3.

The snow for days uncrunched

I walked on it and I left

some for u to crunch

if you bottled up

if you bottled up

all the marriage proposals

I’ve gotten in museums

I bet you could

call it something

like weightlessness

and set it adrift

on some mantle

or shower caddy

to wait for moving day

I bet all the kisses

I’ve ever forgot

could fit on one page

if you called them something

catchy, if they could tell me

what time the exhibition closes

and why there’s no touching

natural history

1.

I was a real dog

naked and snarling by the river

everyone loved it

they were in love

with me, the dog

I don’t remember the name of this river

(do rivers have names)

yes they do

(but are they named by people)

yes they are

I was another animal

naked and yowling

by another river

whose name I don’t know

there was nobody there

to love it

except the river

whose name I don’t know

2.

I was an ancient man

those were my instructions

I needed exact change

for the bus

but I didn’t know

how any of this shit worked

3.

I returned to my river

I removed all my cloth

I saw a duck floating by

on the current

Hey buddy, I said

he just looked at me

and said

Good day, sir.

4.

people aren’t people

anymore

now they’re animals

it’s better this way

much friendlier

5.

every day I wait

for breakfast

to reveal itself

Jan. 14 (a campfire by itself)

a campfire by itself

look at this strange boy

it’s freezing it has a house

oh good, the campfire

is only in the boy’s mind

the boy is only in the

reader’s mind, there is no boy

see how it feels, to be

against a figment, the smoke

unharmful to anyone except

a displaced and tired

skywritten note to self

settling down to the earth

If you go through any door

let it be

the door to the backyard, where

you can observe there is

no boy at a campfire by itself

A famous poet face (Jan. 13)

a famous poet face

timed me while I was standing

on the sidewalk with Michael

drinking hot tea and talking

about the stitching together

of ancient moments today

I know what everyone wants to know

is what’s a poet doing with a phone

his white goatee as puzzling

as twitter, his scratchy warbles

formidable as tinder

his empire of reminiscences

rich in pixels and RAM

I know what everyone

wants to know is how

was the tea, too hot

too bitter, too past

too pent up in its paper

or did it row me slowly

to a balmy conference room

beyond the bedtime of germs

and right beside my reservoir

of courage and understanding

I know everyone wants to know

where this reservoir is

in case they need to find me

and remind me of what time it is

but don’t worry I know

what time it is, oh wait

it’s a different time now

and now again

January twelfth belated

this my poem from yesterday, this

my creaky fingers, this

refrigerator in the other room

is speaking to itself

this the unruffled papers clutching

music notation in their teeth

like a wild cat gnarling a bird

if you can’t fly (because you’re dead)

let me know I’ll sing a song

about u

Are you planning for this (Jan. 11)

“In the (near) future, every person will have a parallel digital identity.

Avatars, crypto wallets, digital goods will be the norm. Are you planning for this?”

                                                                        — Reese Witherspoon

                                                                            11 January, 2022

In the (near) future, every person

will wear socks on their head,

have breakfast at night

and stalk around in wheeled canoes.

The United States of America will

be known as “Fraggle Rock”.

Fridges full of wolf urine

will be the norm.

Are you planning for this?

In the (near) future, everyone will know

at least one poem by every teenager

working in a nearby bodega.

Lightbulbs will be made out of hair

Your walls will have spiders in them

and everyone will have a sex dream

about everyone else.

this will be normal.

Are you planning this?

In the (near future)

every bacterium will have a blog.

the trees will wear diapers.

Bird costumes will be required for international travel

Guitars will do whatever the fuck they want

is this normal are you planning this?

is this normal are you planning this are you

Elevator on the road (Jan. 10)

 3.

sleepy i'm so sleepy i

need to sleep but look these

electrons, they're legendary

they harm us so much

is it what it is in dream,

a familiar bridge made unfamiliar

a reason to run away

a trajectory toward a promise

2.

sleep is very sleepy for me

want to sleep but look at this

electrons, and myths

they hurt us deeply

and that which is in the dream,

a well-known unusual bridge

for escape

the way to the promise

1.

I fell asleep in a dream

I want asleep, but look

Electronics and Myths

They make us very angry.

What is a dream?

Everyone knows unusual bones.

Escape

Elevator on the road

First Date

The one thing you should know about me is

I have a terrible secret

the two things you should know about

me are I have a terrible

secret and I forgot what

the other thing is

Sonnet (I was rebuffed)

I was rebuffed but not by the lake

it was in my own home (near the lake)

by a beautiful person born about two years

before me, and I was by myself

The mirror was there, the piano was there

my friend was not there but I told her

Not sure if I should tell her

due to all the rebuffing

between us already, but I said

“I just got rebuffed by my

date from the other day.

No more dates for me”

“Aww sorry joe joe” she said

“More time for eating soup” said I

Theoretically one could go bankrupt (Jan. 7)

Theoretically one could go bankrupt

sitting on a leather couch like this

it’s not that it takes money

to make money or even about the

couch, but mightn’t one wonder

about the world out there, who’s

zooming on their phones to work,

which brand of silence goes best

with impermeable terror and how

could you even direct traffic in

your condition, you’ve got no electricity

no haircut no circadian anonymity,

you’re the Truman Show of my dreams

and even I must fire you sometimes.

Do you wonder if one could be

refracted as much as two or are

you normal?

Sounds great

Two questions:

What the fuck is a poem

and

why have to do one every day

Let’s say I went berzerk (Jan. 4)

Let’s say I went berzerk
in the bodega and ordered
twelve oodles of nudity, do u
surmise my man

would give me dap and send me
on my sober way? let’s just
think about the least circuitous route
from thy story to my — wouldst

if it became a cavernous sound,
my date gone to, the world calamity
shut out. Look! at the swan,
look it’s an avalanche now

of one long moment, spanning all
the temperatures you can handle
a kiss that sends you stumbling
into a tree branch
