Buffalo

I still can't believe I saw you

Steps away - I could have touched you

Unmoving and so unflinchingly alive

I could spend hours watching your

Meaningful steps across the prairie

Amber saucer eyes swerving towards me

With some sort of generational forgiveness

All grass-fed insouciance and steady hooves.

New Weird Old York

I bought it an idea of
an idea
and in 11 years
slowly absorbed
my complicity in an idea

the decade and change
of the self

I'm there, the Australians,
ever among Australians,
splitting stitches of The Redback, Acton
or a dog parent on a yacht
hawking my dating profile
its negation of words
on socials and the reverse.
Someone deeply immersed
in the burger wars
who left as
Timeout became free.

The new weird
is it the rising shame
of avoiding the East Village at
night

was it worth the dead shark
on the street in 1982
when Mark, who was at
The Great Jones first moved here?

Shades of Blue-Green

so I like teal,
Ya gotta a problem with that?
He does indeed seem to have a problem with that
not understanding why
and trying to give me gifts that aren’t teal
hoping I might expand my color palette
ending up with disappointment on my face
never learning:
I don’t want a gift that isn’t teal
