Hush

 Hush (January 4, 2022)

In the hush of the snowfall

even the animals are silent

there is no birdsong

or scampering of tiny feet across the roof

even the trees are still

as they accept the gentle blanketing of their limbs

In the hush of the snowfall

I sit at my kitchen window

and imagine a world as sparklingly clean

as the snow covering the earth

As the flakes slowly stop drifting down from the sky

and the sun begins to peek over the chimneys

before the world awakens

to begin shoveling, scraping, digging

refusing the respite Nature has given us

While the squirrels and rabbits

still sleep beneath the sequined quilt of my yard

there is no fear, no illness, no grief

there is just me and God

and Her majestic artistry

  1. "refusing the respite Nature has given us" :) lovely. captures one of my strongest feelings about snow.
