Life backwards. Counterclockwise.
The batteries in one of our wall clocks needed to be replaced. Relatively simple. But replacing the batteries meant the clock returned to its original settings, and that meant chimes every 15 minutes, and we didn't want any chimes.
I found the manufacturer's instructions online and over three days we followed them exactly a dozen times on how to reset the clock's multiple dials and silence the chimes. But each time the chimes kept chiming.
I found someone else's instructions and followed them. The chimes stopped. About 30 minutes later I felt odd about the instructions and reread them. I had actually misunderstood the instructions and followed the wrong directions I had in my head. But the clock was keeping the correct time and the chimes had stopped. Two days later the clock is still keeping the correct time and the chimes are still silent. Sometimes the wrong directions work.
